Read the extract given below and answer the questions that follow

Passage 5 –  They stood in the……………….and let Margot out.

Answer: The Sun would shine again after seven years. The children locks Margot in the closet because the sun is coming out and he doesn’t want her to see it. The problem between Margot and the other children is that she is from the earth and they have lived on Venus for all their lives.

Question 2. Why were the children avoiding looking at each other?

Answer: The children avoiding looking at each other were glanced out at the world that was continuously raining now and raining and raining .Their faces were solemn and pale. They could not meet each other’s glances. They had been cruel to Margot. Child looked at their hands and feet, their faces down because they were guilty of hurting Margot by not letting her see the Sun. Now it would shine on Venus only after seven years.

Question 3. Why does the author describe their faces as blue and terrible?

Answer: The author describes their faces as blue and terrible to stress their criminal and mean minds thus, the result of living on Venus, away from the positive energy of the Sun.

Question 4. What impression does one get of the life of people away from the Sun ?

Answer: The power of the sun over the children living on Venus is famous. They are not bright and colourless, not just only emotionally but also physically. The lack of the sun has not only washed away the colour on their skin but also their benevolence and sympathy for other people. They do not get this again until they’ve spent time under the sun’s rays. The sun is life giving for the landscape as well as the inhabitants of Venus.
