Numericals on Convex Mirror

Class-12 Nootan ISC Physics Solutions Ch-14 Reflection of Light Spherical Mirrors.

Que-8: An object is placed at 18 cm in front of a spherical mirror. The image is formed at 3.0 cm behind the mirror. Find the focal length and the nature of the mirror.

Ans- u = -18 cm    , v = +3 cm

m = -v/u = f / f-u

=> -3/-18 = f / f+18

=> 6f = f+18

=> f = +3.6 cm , convex

Que-9: An object is placed 15 cm away from a convex mirror of radius of curvature 90 cm. Find image’s position and magnification.

Ans- f = 90/2 = 45 cm    , u = -15

m = f / f-u

= 45 / 45+15 = 0.75

m = -v/u

=> 0.75 = -v / -15

=> v = 11.25 cm , behind the mirror

Que-10: A 2 cm long object is placed at a distance of 100 cm from a convex mirror of radius of curvature 50 cm. Find the position, nature and length of the image.

Ans- f = 50/2 = 25 cm   , u = -100 cm

m = f / f-u

= 25 / 25+100 = 0.2

m = I/O

=> 0.2 = I/2

=> I = 0.4

again m = -v/u

=> 0.2 = -v/-100

=> v = 20 cm , behind the mirror

Que-11: An object is placed in front of a convex mirror of radius of curvature 20 cm. Its image is formed 8 cm behind the mirror. Find the location of the object with respect to the mirror.

Ans- f = 20/2 = 10 cm   , v = 10 cm

1/f = 1/v + 1/u

=> 1/10 = 1/8 + 1/u

=> u = -40 cm , in front the mirror

Que-12: The image formed by a convex mirror of focal length 30 cm is a quarter size of the object. Find the location of the object with respect to the mirror.

Ans- m = 1/4

f / f-u = 30 / 30-u

=> 120 = 30-u

=> u = -90 cm , in front the mirror

Que-13: The image formed by a convex mirror of radius of curvature 20 cm is half the size of the object. Find the position of the object and of its image.

Ans- m = 1/2   , f = 20/2 cm = 10 cm

m = f / f-u

=> 1/2 = 10 / 10-u

=> u = -10 cm , in front the mirror

again m = -v/u

=> 1/2 = -v/-100

=> v = 5 cm , behind the mirror

Que-14: When an object is placed at a distance of 60 cm from a convex mirror, the magnification produced is 1/2. Where should the object be placed to obtain a magnification of 1/3?

Ans- u1 = 60 cm   , m1 = 1/2

u2 = ?     , m2 = 1/3

=> 1/2 = f / f-u

=> 1/2= f / f+60

=> f = 60 cm

again 1/3 = f / f-u

=> 1/3 = 60 / 60-u

=> u = -120 cm , in front of the mirror
