(i) Why is there a need for irrigation in India? (Two reasons)
Ans: because rainfall here is seasonal in nature. It is limited to four months of a year. It is also important because some crops require more water than what it is provided by the rainfall, therefore we have to depend on irrigation
(ii) Distinguish between Inundation Canals and Perennial Canals.
Ans: Long canals originating from large rivers are known as inundation canals. When the river is high enough, and especially when it is in flood, they receive water. Perennial canals, which are connected to dams and barrages to provide water all year, irrigate a large area
(iii) Name a state in India where tube wells are commonly used. Give two reasons to support your answer.
Ans: Tube wells are extensively used in Uttar Pradesh and Haryana. It is an important source of irrigation as it irrigates large areas of land in comparatively less time and it can irrigate the fields throughout the year.

(a) What is meant by Rainwater Harvesting?
What is RWH? Rain water harvesting is collection and storage of rain water that runs off from roof tops, parks, roads, open grounds, etc. This water run off can be either stored or recharged into the ground water
(b) Mention any two water harvesting practices followed in India
Two methods of water harvesting in India: (i) The excess water collected through rainfall can be carried to the wells, which further helps to recharge the wells and underground water. (ii) Collection of rainwater on top of the roof and directing dry tanks
