Que-1. A paramagnetic salt has a magnetic moment of 5.0 A m² at a temperature of 4 K in a magnetic field of 1.0 T. Find its magnetic moment at a temperature of 3 K in a magnetic field of 1.5 T.
Ans- m ∝ B/T
=> m1/m2 = B1/B2 x T1/T2
=> 5/m2 = 1/1.5 x 3/4 = 1/2
=> m2 = 10 A m²
Que-2. A cylindrical rod magnet has a length of 5.0 cm and a diameter of 1.0 cm. It has a uniform magnetization of 5.3 x 10³ A m^-1. Find its magnetic moment.
Ans- M = m/v
=> M = Magnetization
V = Volume
m = magnetic dipole moment
=> m = MV
=> 5.3 x 10³ x 0.05 x 3.14 x (0.005)²
=> 20.8 x 10^-3 A m²
Que-3. The magnetic field induction in a material placed in a magnetizing field of 2000 A m^-1 is 1.0 N A^-1 m^-1. Find (i) magnetic permeability, (ii) relative permeability, (iii) magnetic susceptibility and (iv) intensity of magnetization for the material.
Ans-(i) μ = B/H = 1/2000 = 5 x 10^-4 N A^-2
(ii) μr = μ/μo = 5 x 10^-4 / 4π x 10^-7 = 398
(iii) Xm = μr – 1 = 398 – 1 = 397
(iv) M = XmH = 397 x 2000 = 7.94 x 10^5 A m^-1
Que-4. What is the value of the magnetic susceptibility of aluminium, if its relative permeability is 1.000022? (ISC 2011, 07)
Ans- μr = 1 + Xm
=> Xm = μ – 1
=> 1.000022 – 1 = 0.000022
