Moving Coil Galvanometer and Voltage Current Sensitivities Numerical
Que-8. A moving-coil galvanometer has its coil of 24 turns and 12 Ω resistance. By how much the number of turns should be increased so that the current-sensitivity of the galvanometer increases by 25%? If, in doing so, the resistance of the coil increases to 20 Ω, what will be the effect on the voltage-sensitivity of the galvanometer?
Ans-
Current sensitivity (Q/i) = NBA/C
New current sensitivity
=> NBA/C x 125/100 = 5 NBA/4 C
=> N’ BA / C (where N’ = 5 N/4)
N’ = 5 x 24 / 4 = 30
again voltage sensitivity
= θ/V = NBA/RC = NBA/12 C
new voltage sensitivity
=> 5 NBA / 4 x 20 C (R changes from 12 to 20)
=> NBA/16 C
∴ percentage decrease = (NBA/12 C – NBA/16 C) / (NBA/12 C)
=> 25 %
Turns must be increased from 24 to 30; voltage-sensitivity will fall by 25%.
Que-9. To increase the current-sensitivity of a moving-coil galvanometer by 50%, its resistance is increased so that the new resistance becomes twice its initial resistance. By what factor does its voltage-sensitivity change?
Ans- Current sensitivity
θ/i = NBA/C
new current sensitivity
=> NBA/C x 150/100 = 3 NBA/2 C
initial voltage sensitivity
=> θ/V = NBA/RC
new voltage sensitivity
=> 3 NBA / 2 R.2C = 3 NBA/4 RC
=> 3/4 of initial voltage sensitivity
0.75 of initial sensitivity .
