Question 1. Pollution has become a matter of great concern. Discuss any three sources and three effects of air pollution.

Answer : Pollution is the introduction of harmful materials into the environment. These harmful materials are called pollutants. Pollutants can be natural, such as volcanic ash. They can also be created by human activity, such as trash or runoff produced by factories. Pollutants damage the quality of air, water, and land.

Source of Air Pollutions

cars, buses, planes, trucks, and trains. stationary sources – such as power plants, oil refineries, industrial facilities, and factories. area sources – such as agricultural areas, cities, and wood burning fireplaces. natural sources – such as wind-blown dust, wildfires, and volcanoes

effects of air pollution

Air pollution can affect lung development and is implicated in the development of emphysema, asthma, and other respiratory diseases, such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). PM and nitrogen oxide are linked to chronic bronchitis

Question 2. Explain any three dangers associated with the use of synthetic or chemical pesticides.

Answer : According to this analysis, exposure to synthetic pesticides is associated with adverse health outcomes in agricultural workers. The authors describe these outcomes highly related to different types of cancers, genomic damage, oxidative stress, neurological disorders and respiratory, metabolic and thyroid effects

Question 3. Carbon monoxide is highly dangerous when inhaled. Explain.

Answer : Carbon monoxide when inhaled and absorbed into the blood binds with haemoglobin and forms an irreversible complex called carboxy haemoglobin. The formation of this complex reduces the oxygen-carrying capacity of the blood. Hence, carbon monoxide is highly dangerous when inhaled

Question 4. Mention any two environmental impacts of an oil spill.

Answer : Oil spills frequently kill marine mammals such as whales, dolphins, seals, and sea otters. 10 Oil can clog blowholes of whales and dolphins, making it impossible for them to breathe properly and disrupting their ability to communicate. Oil coats fur of otters and seals, leaving them vulnerable to hypothermia.

Question 5. Explain any three causes and three consequences of eutrophication.

Answer :  It mainly arises from the oversupply of phosphate and nitrate nutrients. As such, increased levels of chemical nutrients from animal waste, fertilizers and sewage often give rise to eutrophication when washed into nearby surface waters by rain or irrigation

Question 6. State any two harmful effects of acid rain.

Answer : Dead or dying trees are a common sight in areas effected by acid rain. Acid rain leaches aluminum from the soil. That aluminum may be harmful to plants as well as animals. Acid rain also removes minerals and nutrients from the soil that trees need to grow

Question 7. State any two harmful effects of noise pollution on human health.

Answer :  Exposure to loud sounds can cause hypertension (high blood pressure), higher stress and may affect sleep cycles .It may also cause hearing loss and tinnitus. Moreover, noise pollution is also associated with the decline of cognitive capacity

Question 8. List the aims and norms of Bharat Stage Standards.

Answer : Bharat stage emission standards (BSES) are emission standards instituted by the Government of India to regulate the output of air pollutants from compression ignition engines and Spark-ignition engines equipment, including motor vehicles

Question 1. A person suffering from some diseases as given below due to pollution. On the basis of his diseases answer the questions followed :

Diseases- Eye irritation, dizziness, acid rain, headache, sore throat, chest pain, lung diseases, allergies

(i) Name the type of pollution responsible for it.

(ii) List four sources causing this pollution.

(iii) List two identifying features of this type of pollution

Answer :

(i) Air Pollutions

(ii) cars, buses, planes, trucks, and trains. stationary sources – such as power plants, oil refineries, industrial facilities, and factories. area sources – such as agricultural areas, cities, and wood burning fireplaces. natural sources – such as wind-blown dust, wildfires, and volcanoes

(iii) Air quality is measured with the Air Quality Index, or AQI. The AQI works like a thermometer that runs from 0 to 500 degrees. However, instead of showing changes in the temperature, the AQI is a way of showing changes in the amount of pollution in the air.

Question 2. Given below is a representation of a kind of pollution. Study the same and answer the questions that follow:

Question 2. Given below is a representation of a kind of pollution. Study the same and answer the questions that follow:
