Numericals on Motion in a Vertical Circle
Ch-8 Uniform Circular Motion Class-11 Nootan ISC Physics Solutions of Kumar and Mittal Physics of Nageen Prakashan
Que-28: A ball is fixed to the end of a rod and is revolved in a horizontal circle of radius 5 m with a speed of 10 m/s. Calculate: (a) the acceleration of the ball, (b) the acceleration of the ball if it is revolved in a circle of same radius with same speed but in a vertical plane.
Ans- r = 5 m , v = 10 m/s
=> a = v²/r
=> 10 x 10 / 5
=> 20 m/s², in each case
Que-29: A ball of mass 0.3 kg is tied to one end of a string 0.8 m long and revolved in a vertical circle. At what speed of the ball will the tension in the string be zero at the highest point of the circle? What would be the tension at the lowest point in this situation?
(g = 9.8 m/s²)
Ans- v = √r g
=> √ 0.8 x 9.8
=> 2.8 m/s
in this situation tension at lowest point will be 6 kg
T = 6 mg
=> 6 x 0.3 x 9.8
=> 17.64 N
Que-30: A stone is tied to a weightless string and revolved in a vertical circle of radius 5 m. (i) What should be the minimum speed of the stone at the highest point of the circle so that the string does not slack? (ii) What should be the speed of the stone at the lowest point in this situation? (g = 9.8 m/s²)
Ans- (i) minimum speed at highest point
=> v = √r g
=> √5 x 9.8
=> 7 m/s
(ii) speed at lowest point in their situation
=> √5 r g
=> √5 x 49
=> 7√5 m/s
Que-31: A bucket full of water is tied with a rope 1.6 m long and revolved in a vertical circle. What would be the minimum speed of the bucket at the highest point so that water may not fall? (g = 10 m/s²).
Ans- v = √r g
=> √1.6 x 10
=> 4 m/s
