Circles
A circle is a simple closed curve and it is not a polygon
Parts of a Circle
Centre: The center point of the entire circle.
Radius: The line segment that connects the centre of circle to any point on the circle.
Diameter: The line segment that connects two points on the circle and passes through the centre of the circle. It is double the value of the radius.
Chord: The line segment that connects two points on the circle but do not pass through the centre of the circle.
Circumference: It is the distance around the circle.
Arc: An arc is the part of circumference.
Sector: Sector is an interior region bounded by pair of radii and arc on one side.
Segment: Segment is an interior region bounded by a chord and an arc
Interior of the Circle – Area inside the boundary of the circle is called the Interior of the Circle.
The Exterior of the Circle – Area outside the boundary of the circle is called the Exterior of the Circle.
Semi-circle :- A diameter divides the circle into two semi-circles. Hence the semicircle is the half of the circle, which has the diameter as the part of the boundary of the semicircle

Question 1
Find the length of the diameter of a circle of radius :
(i) 5 cm
(ii) 3.6 cm
(iii) 2.8 cm
Answer :
(i) Radius = 5 cm
Diameter = 2 x radius
=2 x 5 cm
= 10 cm.
(ii)
Radius = 3.6 cm
Diameter = 2 x radius
=2 x 3.6 cm
= 7.2 cm.
(iii)
Radius = 2.8 cm
Diameter = 2 x radius
=2 x 2.8 cm
= 5.6 cm.
Question 2
Fill in the blanks :
Answer :
(i) The Perimeter of a circle of a circle is called its circumstances
(ii) A diameter is the longest chord of the circle.
(iii) Half of a circle is called a semicircle
(iv) The mid-point of a diameter of a circle is the centre of the circle.
(v) All the radii of a circle are equal
(vi) A line segment having its end point on a circle is called a chord of the circle.
(vii) A chord that passes through the centre of a circle is a called a diameter of the circle
(viii) The interior of a circle together with the circle is called the circular region.
(ix) A line which interest the circle at two distinct points is called a secant.
(x) A quadrant is one fourth of a circle
