Exercise- 12A

(Fundamental Concepts of Algebra Class 6 RS Aggarwal Exe-12A Goyal Brothers ICSE Maths Solutions Ch-12)

Que-1: Write the following in mathematical form using signs and symbols :

(i) x increased by 23 (ii) y decreased by 15  (iii) x minus thrice y     (iv) x taken away from 20   (v) Four times x decreased by five time y   (vi) Sum of x and quotient of y by 10      (vii) Product of a and b subtracted from their sum   (viii) Quotient of a by 3, multiplied by the sum b and 3.

Sol:  (i) x+23
(ii) y-15
(iii) x-3y
(iv) 20-x
(v) 4x-5y
(vi) x+(y/10)
(vii) (a+b) -ab
(viii) (a/3)(b+3)

Que-2: Write the following statements in mathematical form using signs and symbols :

(i) x exceeds 14 by 5   (ii) Twice x decreased by 9 gives 11   (iii) 45 decreased by y gives 29     (iv) One third of the sum of x and 4 equals y    (v) 16 less than the quotient of a by 2 equals 8    (vi) Nine times m is greater than 18      (vii) 7 is greater than twice p     (viii) The quotient of a by 6 is less than 1   (ix) Three times x is 12 less than twice y.

Sol:  (i) x-14 = 5
(ii) 2x-9 = 11
(iii) 45-y = 29
(iv) (1/3)(x+4) = 10
(v) (a/2)-16 = 8
(vi) 9m > 18
(vii) 7 > 2p
(viii) a/6 < 1
(ix) 3x = 2y-12

Que-3: Write each of the following in exponential form :

(i) a×a×a×….. taken 10 times  (ii) r×r×r×….. taken 6 times  (iii) 2×m×m×n×n×n   (iv) 3×5×p×p×p×q×q×r

Sol:   (i) a^10
(ii) r^6
(iii) 2m²n³
(iv) 15p³q²r

Que-4: Write the following in product form :

(i) 6x²y³   (ii) 3a²b³c⁴  (iii) 2p³q³r³

Sol:  (i) 6×x×x×y×y×y
(ii) 3×a×a×b×b×b×c×c×c×c
(iii) 2×p×p×p×q×q×q×r×r×r
