Finding Percentage of Given Quantity
to calculate y % of x, Divide y by 100. Multiply the result by x as given following

To express One Quantity as a Percentage of Others use the formula given

Sol: (i) 16% of 175
16/100 × 175 = 28
(ii) 140% of 45
140/100 × 45 = 63
(iii) 2% of 120
2/100 × 120 = 12/5 = 2.4
(iv) 12.5% of 72
125/1000 × 72 = 9
(v) 14% of 14
14/100 × 14 = 196/100 = 1.96
(vi) 16*(2/3)% of 18
50/300 × 18 = 3
(vii) 5% of 12.6
5/100 × 12.6 = 6.3/10 = 0.63
(viii) 20% of 1/3
20/100 × 1/3 = 1/15

Sol: (i) Multiply 14 by 75 (14 * 75 = 1050).
Divide the result by 100
= 1050 / 100 = ₹10.50.
(ii) Multiply 60 by 50 (60 * 50 = 3000).
Divide the result by 100
= 3000 / 100 = 30 kg.
(iii) Multiply 8 by 65 (8 * 65 = 520).
Divide the result by 100
= 520 / 100 = 5.2 cm
(iv) Multiply 5 by 3 (5 * 3 = 15).
Divide the result by 100
= 15 / 100 = 0.15 kg.
(v) Multiply 10 by 1 (10 * 1 = 10).
Divide the result by 100
= 10 / 100 = 0.1 litre
(vi) Multiply 40 by 1 (40 * 1 = 40).
Divide the result by 100
= 40 / 100 = 0.4 years.
(vii) Multiply 9 by 1 (9 * 1 = 9)
Divide the result by 100

Sol: (i) (19 / 95) * 100 = 20%
(ii) (32 / 40) * 100 = 80%
(iii) (117 / 65) * 100 = 180%
(iv) (29.4 / 42) * 100 = 70%

Sol: (i) Rs1 = 100 paise
(43/100) * 100 = 43%
(ii) 1cm = 10mm
(16/10) * 100 = 160%
(iii) 1m = 100cm
(8/100) * 100 = 8%
(iv) 1km = 1000m
(635/1000) * 100 = 63.5 %

Sol: (i) Rupees 1.80 =180 paise
now,
(27/180)*100
= 15%
(ii) 1.5m =150 cm
now,
(48/150) * 100
= 32%
(iii) 2.5kg = 2500g
now,
(175/2500) * 100
= 7%
(iv) 1 hour = 60 min
2 min 24 second = 2.24 min
(2.24/60) * 100
= 4%.
(v) 1.05 km = 1050 m
(189/1050) * 100
= 18%
Que-6: What is the number whose 8% is 18 ?
Sol: Let the number be x
According to question
8% of x is 18
8/100 × x = 18
x = (18×100)/8
x = 225
Que-7: What is the number whose 6% is 8.1 ?
Sol: Let the unknown number be x.
6% = 6/100
6/100*x = 8.1
6x = 8.1*100
6x = 810
x = 810/6
x = 135
Que-8: What is the amount whose 12% is Rs21 ?
Sol: Let the amount be x.
∴ 12% of x = 21
12/100x = 21
12x = 2100
x = 2100/12
= 175
Que-9: What is the length whose 16% of 36cm ?
Sol: Let, the length = x cm
So, 16% of the length will be :
= x × (16/100)
= x × (4/25)
= 4x/25 cm
According to the data mentioned in the question,
4x/25 = 36
x = 36 × 25/4
x = 225 cm.
or x = 2.25 m.
Que-10: What is the number whose 12.5% is 3.5 ?
Sol: Let the number be ‘x’.
So, 12.5% of x = 3.5
125/1000 × x = 3.5
x = (3.5×1000)/125
x = 28
