How to Convert Percentage into fraction
for convert a percent to a fraction, we have to remove the percent sign and divide the given number by 100. And, then we express the fractional form of the percentage in the simplest form
How to Convert Fraction into Percentage
To convert fractions to percentages divide the numerator (number on the top) by the denominator (number on the bottom) and multiply by 100 . This will give you the fraction as a percentage.
Interconversion of Percentage into Decimal
To convert a percentage to a decimal, divide by 100 while converting a decimal to a percentage, multiply by 100 (just move the decimal point 2 places to the right)
Exercise- 6A

(i) 68% (ii) 3*(1/3)% (iii) 224% (iv) 0.05%
Sol: (i) 68% = 68/100 = 17/25
(ii) 3*(1/3)% = 10/300 = 1/30
(iii) 224% = 224/100 = 56/25 = 2*(6/25)
(iv) 0.05% = 5/100×100 = 5/10000 = 1/2000.
Que-2: Convert each of the following into a percentage :
(i) 2/15 (ii) 9/40 (iii) 1*(2/3) (iv) 2*(2/5)
Sol: (i) 2/15
2/15 x 100 = 40/3% = 13*(1/3)%
(ii) 9/40
9/40 x 100 = 45/2% = 22*(1/2)%
(iii) 1*(2/3)
7/3 x 100 = 700/3 % = 166*(2/3)%
(iv) 2*(2/5)
12/5 x 100 = 240%
Que-3: Express each of the following ratios as a percentage :
(i) 13:20 (ii) 11:18 (iii) 87:25 (iv) {6*(1/4)}:{4*(3/8)}
Sol: (i) 13:20
13/20 x 100 = 65%
(ii) 11:18
11/18 x 100 = 550/9 % = 61*(1/9)%
(iii) 87:25
87/25 x 100 = 348%
(iv) {6*(1/4)} : {4*(3/8)}
25/4 : 35/8 = (25/4)/(35/8)
25/4 x 8/35 x 100
= 1000/7 % = 142*(6/7)%.
Que-4: Express each of the following decimals as a percentage :
(i) 0.2 (ii) 0.06 (iii) 0.008 (iv) 2.4
Sol: (i) 0.2 = 2/10
2/10 x 100 = 20%
(ii) 0.06 = 6/100
6/100 x 100 = 6%
(iii) 0.008 = 8/1000
8/1000 x 100 = 0.8%
(iv) 2.4 = 24/10
24/10 x 100 = 240%.
Que-5: Express each of the following percentages as a decimal :
(i) 25% (ii) 4% (iii) 3*(1/5)% (iv) 0.3%
Sol: (i) 25% = 25/100 = 0.25
(ii) 4% = 4/100 = 0.04
(iii) 3*(1/5)% = 16/5×100 = 0.032
(iv) 0.3% = 3/10×100 = 0.003
Que-6: Express each of the following as a ratio :
(i) 48% (ii) 26*(2/3)% (iii) 0.06% (iv) 120%
Sol: (i) 48% = 48/100 = 12:25
(ii) 26*(2/3)% = 80/3% = 80/300 = 4:15
(iii) 0.06% = 6/100 % = 6/100×100 = 3:5000
(iv) 120% = 120/100 = 6:5.
Que-7: Find the value of :
(i) 33% of Rs50 (ii) 6*(2/3)% of 3m (iii) 0.6% of 35kg (iv) 3*(1/4) of 5l
Sol: (i) 33% of Rs50
33/100 x 50 = 33/2 = Rs 16.50
(ii) 20/3 % of 3m
20/300 x 3 = 1/5 = 0.2m = 20cm
(iii) 0.6% of 35kg
6/10 % of 35kg
{6/(10×100)} x 35 = 21/100 = 0.21kg = 210g
(iv) 13/4 % of 5L
13/(4×100) x 5 = 13/80 = 0.1625L = 162.5 ml.
Que-8: (i) What per cent of Rs 9 is Rs5 (ii) What per cent of 32m is 80m (iii) What per cent of 50kg is 65kg (iv) What per cent of 5l is 400ml.
Sol: (i) Let the percent be x%
x% x 9 = 5
x/100 x 9 = 5
x = 5/9 x 100
x = 500/9 = 55*(5/9) %
(ii) Let the percent be x%
x% x 32 = 80
x/100 x 32 = 80
x = 80/32 x 100
x = 250%.
(iii) Let the percent be x%
x% x 50 = 65
x/100 x 50 = 65
x = 65/50 x 100
x = 130%
(iv) Let the percent be x%
400ml = 0.4L
x% x 5 = 0.4
x/100 x 5 = 0.4
x = 0.4/5 x 100
x = 8.0 %.
Que-9: (i) If 8% of a number is 24, find the number
(ii) If 7.25% of a number is 2.9, find the number.
(iii) If 6*(2/3)% of a number is 1, find the number.
Sol: (i) Let the number be x
8% of x = 24.
8/100 × x = 24
x = (24×100)/8.
x = 300.
(ii) Let the number be x
7.25 of x = 2.9
(7.25/100) × x = 2.9
x × 7.25 = 2.9×100
x = 290/7.25
x = 40
(iii) Let the number be x
20/3 % of x = 1
20/300 × x = 1
x = 300/20
x = 15.
Que-10: (i) Increase 75 by 24% (ii) Decrease 375 by 8%.
Sol: (i) 75 x (24/100)
= 3 x 6 = 18
= 75 + 18 = 93.
(ii) 375 x (8/100)
= 15 x 2 = 30
= 375 – 30 = 345.
Que-11: What number when increased by 15% becomes 276 ?
Sol: Let the number be x
276 = x+(15% of x)
276 = x+(15/100) × x
276 = (100x+15x)/100
27600 = 115x
x = 27600/115
x = 240.
Que-12: What number when decreased by 8% becomes 345 ?
Sol: Let the number be x
ATQ,
x – (8x/100) = 345
(100x-8x)/100 = 345
92x/100 = 345
x = (345×100)/92
x = 15 x 25
x = 375.
