Explanation:  The poet describe The river as a soul, that serve its physical nature. Its cutting through the land is likened to a torrent of grief, perhaps indicating the pain and sorrow that comes with death. The poet tells that the river, in its quest, seems to pause, holding its breath as it searches for something beyond the limit—perhaps a mythical or spiritual realm represented by ‘fish and stars’.

Explanation:  In this stanza also poet again describe the river’s soulfulness, which suggest, almost ancient wisdom that the river possesses. It is intimately aware of its lifecycle, from rain to mist, and through this continuous cycle, the river knows the concept of water’s immortality.

Explanation:  Childhood is remembered as a ‘shrine of happy pictures,’ a pleasant time full of joy and free from worries. As time progresses, the small town’s atmosphere becomes full with anxiety about the future—a stark contrast to the innocent past. The tradition of placing the dead pointing west may be linked to the setting sun, symbolizing the end of life.

When the soul rises ….. …… …….  house of the sun

Explanation:  According to idea of poet when there is death, the soul is believed to rise and move toward the ‘golden east’, the direction from which the sun emerges. This movement express a journey towards a new beginning or rebirth, indicating cycle of day and night.

In the cool bamboo, …. …… matters, like this.

Explanation:  Here poet compare with Bamboo, which is cool and hollow,  that requires something external to give it power—much like the sun’s light that restores and warms. Life is given significance and vitality through this ‘sunlight’.

In small towns by the river we all want to walk with the gods.

Explanation:  In this last stanza, the poet reflects the desire of the towns people to achieve a state of higher existence or enlightenment. Living by the river, which has been a symbol of continuity and a soulful presence throughout the poem.
