MULTIPLE CHOICE QUESTIONS EXE-12B

Speed Distance and Time Class 7 ICSE RS Aggarwal Goyal Brothers Foundation Maths Solutions

Choose the correct option in each of the following:

Que-1: Which of the following is correct?

(a) Distance = Speed x Time     (b) Time = Distance x Speed (c) Speed = Distance x Time     (d) Time = Speed / Distance

Ans- Distance = Speed x Time

so, option (a) is correct

Que-2:  To convert a speed of km/hr into m/sec, we multiply it by

(a) 8/15      (b) 18/5     (c) 5/18   (d) 15/8

Ans- To convert speed km/hr into m/sec

multiply it by 5/18

so, option (c) is correct

Que-3:  A car is moving with a speed of 90 km/hr. Its speed in m/sec is

(a) 15 m/s    (b) 25 m/s     (c) 35 m/s   (d) 45 m/s

Ans- Speed of car = 90 km/hr

=> 90 x 1000 / 60 x 60 = 25 m/sec

so, option (b) is correct

Que-4:  An athlete runs at 30 km/hr. In how much time will he run a race of 200 metres

(a) 20 s       (b) 24 s      (c) 32 s    (d) 36 s

Ans- An athlete runs at speed = 30 km/hr

=> 30 x 5/18 = 150/18

Time taken to run 200 m = Distance / speed

=> 200 x 18 / 150 = 24 sec

so, option (b) is correct

Que-5:  A car is moving at a speed of 48 km/hr. How many metres will it travel in 15 minutes?

(a) 8000 m     (b) 10000 m   (c) 12000 m    (d) 16000 m

Ans- Speed of car = 48 km/hr

it will travel in 15 min = 48/60 x 15

=> 12 km = 12000 m

so, option (c) is correct

Que -6:  A cyclist covers 175 metres in 25 seconds. What is his speed in km per hour?

(a) 35 km/hr   (b) 33.6 km/hr  (c) 27 km/hr   (d) 25.2 km/hr

Ans- distance covered = 175 m

time taken = 25 s

speed = distance / time

=> 175 / 25 = 7 m/s

=> 7 x 18/5 = 25.2 km/hr

so, option (d) is correct

Que -7:  A car covers 108 km in first two hours and 90 km in the next one hour. Its average speed is

(a) 28 km/hr    (b) 33 km/hr  (c) 66 km/hr  (d) 99 km/hr

Ans- A car covers 108 km in first two hours and 90 km in next one hour

3 hour = 108 + 90 = 198 km

speed = distance / time

=> 198 / 3 = 66 km / hr

so, option (c) is correct

MENTAL MATHS

Speed Distance and Time Class 7 ICSE RS Aggarwal Exe-12B MCQs Goyal Brothers Foundation Maths Solutions

Que-1:  Fill in the blanks:

(i) A speed of 81 km/hr expressed in metres/sec is ____

Ans-(i) 81 x 5/18 = 22.5 m/s

(ii) Which is greater – a speed of 50 m/sec or 50 km/hr? _____

Ans-(ii) 50 x 5/18 = 13.9 m/s

so, 50 m/s is greater
