MCQs on Unitary Method with Answer
Que-1: If the cost of 14 pens is Rs378, what is the cost of 8 such pens ?
(a) Rs212 (b) Rs214 (c) Rs216 (d) Rs218
Sol: (c) Rs216
Reason: cost of 14 pens = Rs378
Cost one pen = 378/14
first find the cost of one pen = 27
so, multiply it with 8
therefore cost of 8 pens will be 216
Que-2: A rail journey of 50km costs Rs160. How much will a journey of 80 km cost ?
(a) Rs260 (b) Rs256 (c) Rs280 (d) none of these
Sol: (b) Rs256
Reason: A rail journey of 50km costs ₹160
therefore, the cost in covering 1km = ₹160/50
By unitary the method,
80km = 80×(160/50) = ₹256
Hence, the cost of the journey of ₹256
Que-3: A car consumes 6 litres of petrol in covering 81 km. How much distance will it cover in 10 litres ?
(a) 108km (b) 124km (c) 135km (d) 141km
Sol: (c) 135 km
Reason: In 6 litres the car can travel 81 km.
= 6 litres = 81 km
= 1 litre = 81/6 = 27/2 = 13.5 km
So in 10 litres,
= 10 litres = 13.5 * 10 = 135 km.
Que-4: A car covers 450 km in 4*(1/2) hours. How much time will it take in covering 350 km?
(a) 3 hours (b) 3*(1/4) hours (c) 3*(1/2) hours (d) 4 hours
Sol: (c) 3*(1/2) hours
Reason: A car cover 450 km in 4*(1/2) hours or 9/2 hours
by unitary method,
distance covered by car in 1 hour = 450/(9/2)
= (450×2)/9
= 900/9 = 100km
= 350/100 = 3.5hours or 3*(1/2) hours
Hence, the time will it take in covering 350km is 3*(1/2)hours.
Que-5: If the cost of 5 bars of soap is Rs85, what will be the cost of 1 dozen such bars ?
(a) Rs238 (b) Rs204 (c) Rs198 (d) Rs208
Sol: (b) Rs204
Reason: 5 bars = ₹85
1 bar = ₹85÷5=₹17
12 bars = ₹17×12=₹204 (1 dozen = 12)
Answer: ₹204
Que-6: If the cost of 6 note-books is Rs282, what is the cost of 8 such note-books ?
(a) Rs376 (b) Rs243 (c) Rs348 (d) Rs364
Sol: (a) Rs376
Reason: Let’s assume ‘x’ represents the cost of 8 books.
According to the given information:
Cost of 6 books / Cost of 8 books = 282 / x
Using cross-multiplication, we can solve for ‘x’:
6 * x = 8 * 282
6x = 2256
x = 2256 / 6
x = 376
Que-7: If the cost of 16 oranges is Rs124, how many oranges can be bought for Rs155 ?
(a) 18 (b) 24 (c) 20 (d) none of these
Sol: (c) 20
Reason: the cost of 16 oranges is ₹124
the cost of 1 orange is = 124/16
= Rs7.75
therefore, = 155/(124/16)
= (155×16)/124 = 20
Que-8: If the cost of 20 packets of 8 pencils each is Rs400, what is the cost of 25 packets of 12 pencils each ?
(a) Rs725 (b) Rs750 (c) Rs735 (d) Rs760
Sol: (b) Rs750
Reason: 20 packets – Rs 400
cost of one packet 400/20= 20 Rs
Cost of one pencil is 20/8= 2.5 Rs
cost of one packet 12 pencils x 2.5 Rs = 30 Rs
cost of 25 packets = 25 x 30 Rs = Rs 750.
