(iii) 10/12, 15/18, 20/24, 25/30, 30/36
(iv) 14/18, 21/27, 28/36, 35/45, 42/54
(v) 6/28, 9/42, 12/56, 15/70, 18/84

Que-5: Which of the following are the pairs of equivalent fractions ?

(i) 4/5 and 24/30                   (ii) 6/8 and 18/24                   (iii) 9/16 and 3/4
(iv) 8/12 and 14/21               (v) 7/11 and 21/32                  (vi) 5/12 and 35/84

Solution- (i), (ii), (iv), (vi) are the pairs of equivalent fractions.

Que-6: Write an equivalent fraction of :

(i) 4/5 with numerator 32                                      (ii) 7/9 with numerator 42
(iii) 3/7 with denominator 63                                (iii) 10/13 with denominator 78

Solution- (i) 4/5 x 8/8 = 32/40
(ii) 7/9 x 6/6 = 42/54
(iii) 3/7 x 9/9 = 27/63
(iv) 10/13 x 6/6 = 60/78

Que-7: Write an equivalent fraction of :

(i) 32/48 with numerator 2                                   (ii) 21/28 with numerator 3
(iii) 24/56 with denominator 7                             (iv) 121/132 with denominator 12

Solution- (i) The greatest common divisor (GCD) of 32 and 48 is 16.
32/48 = (32÷16)/(48÷16) = 2/3
(ii) 21/28 ÷ 7/7 = 3/4
(iii) 24/56 ÷ 8/8 = 3/7
(iv) 121/132 ÷ 11/11 = 11/12

Que-8: Write an equivalent fraction of :

(i) 45/54 with numerator 20.
(ii) 75/90 with denominator 42.

Solution- (i) You can divide both the numerator and the denominator by their greatest common divisor, which is 9:

45/54 = (45÷9)/(54÷9) = 5/6

Now, we need to find a fraction with a numerator of 20. To do this, we’ll multiply both the numerator and the denominator of 5/6 by 4:

5/6 × 4/4 = 20/24

(ii) 75/90 ÷ 15/15 = 5/6

Now, to change the denominator to 42, you need to find a common multiple of 6 and 42. The least common multiple (LCM) of 6 and 42 is 42.

Now, multiply both the numerator and denominator by the appropriate factor to get the denominator to be 42:

5/6 × 7/7 = 35/42

Que-9: Write the missing numerals in the place-holders :

(i) 4/9 = (…..)/63                                            (ii) 3/4 = 18/(……)
(iii) 42/70 = 3/(……)                                        (iv) 52/78 = (……)/6

Solution- (i) First, observe that 63 is 7 times 9. So, to get a denominator of 63, multiply both the numerator and the denominator of 4994 by 7:

4/9 × 7/7 = 28/63

So, the missing numerator is 28.

(ii) Let the missing number be x
3/4 = 18/x
x = (18 X 4)/3
x = 6 X 4 = 24

(iii) Let the missing number be x
42/70 = 3/x
x = (70 X 3)/42
x = 5

(iv) Let the missing number be x
52/78 = x/6
x = (52 X 6)78
x = 4

Que-10: What fraction of an hour is 25 minutes ?

Solution- So, to express 25 minutes as a fraction of an hour:

Fraction of an hour = (Number of minutes)/(Total minutes in an hour)

Fraction of an hour = 25/60.

Que-11: What fraction of a day in 9 hours ?

Solution-So, to express 9 hours as a fraction of a day:

Fraction of a day = (Number of hours)/Total hours in a day)

Fraction of a day = 9/24
