Summary of Act-5, Scene-3

Macbeth gets a a lot of bad news in this scene which take place in his castle.

This scene indicates Macbeth, now isolated and filled with despair, within the corner of Dunsinane castle. He receive reports of thanes abandoning him and the English army advancing, Yet he believes s to the witches’ prophecy, believing himself  unbeaten until Birnam Wood moves towards Dunsinane and non biological can killed him only.

Servant Brigs Bad News

A servant informs Macbeth of the approaching enemy forces, but Macbeth, angered and scolded at servant’s fear, dismisses him with insults. He ordered to hang if someone try to spread rumor.

Macbeth Calls His Loyal Officer

Macbeth calls for Seyton, his loyal officer, to discuss the matter and its solutions. He reflects on his own life, crying the loss of honor, love, and obedience. He feels more friendless and cursed by all.

Seyton Confirms the News

Seyton confirms the news of the approaching army, This news further increasing Macbeth’s anger and challenges. He declares his determination to fight till the lost moment, demanding his armor despite the enemy’s distance. Macbeth orders more horses and threatens those who speak of fear.

Dr Inform Macbeth about Mental State of Lady Macbeth

At the moment A doctor arrives, informing Macbeth about Lady Macbeth’s abnormal mental state. He explains that her illness is beyond his medical treatment, originating from within her mind. Dr added that she needed special priest to cure such situation but Macbeth, frustrated and rejects the doctor’s remedies and again asks if he can cure the sickness of the country, referring to the ups and down of rebellion he faces currently.

Macbeth Ask Solutions of English Army

Macbeth’s despair is evident as he moan the thanes’ desertion and expresses his desire for a potion to rid the land of the English army. He fluctuates between wearing and removing his armor, showcasing his internal struggle and increasing anxiety and hopelessness. Despite his growing disappointment, he follow to the witches’ prophecy as his only source of hope, declaring his fearlessness until Birnam Wood moves towards Dunsinane and non biological can killed him only.
