Que-17: A double-slit is illuminated by light of wavelength 6000 Å. The slits are 0.1 cm apart and the screen is placed 1 m away. Find the angular position of the 10th maximum in radian and the separation between two adjacent minima.

Ans- Angular position θ = x/D = mλ/D

= 10 x 6000 x 10^-10 / 1

= 6 x 10^-3 rad

and β = Dλ/d

= 1 x 6000 x 10^-10 / 0.1 x 10^-2

= 0.6 x 10^3 m

= 0.6 mm
