Summary of Act-5, Scene-8
Scene 8 of Act 5 in Macbeth is last scene. This scene display the final conflict between Macduff and Macbeth. In spite of Many risk of death Macbeth refused to surrender himself hence Macduff challenge him to ready for death. Macbeth accept the challenge and decide to die fighting.
Macbeth Try to Stop Macduff
Macduff is heavily eager to extract revenge for murder of his wife and son. On seeing the death on head Macbeth try to understand that he has changed his heart and regretting on past deed. He accepted all the crime upon his head including Banquo and Duncan murder.
Macduff is Firm in His Decision
Despite of many misguide excuse Macduff is remain firm in his strong and final decision. At this Macbeth disclose the prophecy of witches that he cannot be harmed by any man born of woman.
Macduff Shocked for a While on Hearing Prophecy
As soon as Macduff hear the Withes Prophecy he shocked for some time but quickly remains in attacking position and also told a more shocking fact that he was not born naturally but was “untimely ripped” from his mother’s womb hence criteria of defeating and killing is well completed.
Now Macbeth Shocked and lost Remaining Hope
On hearing the Macduff fact that he was not born naturally by his mother Macbeth lost his remaining hope and fuels. He told the witches prophecy is an illusion nature and false sense of protection. He starts feeling helpless and insecure himself now.
Macduff Taunt Macbeth as Coward
Macbeth pride and warrior nature prevent him from surrendering before enemy. At this moment Macduff taunts him as a coward, Then Macbeth chooses to death fighting.
Macduff Killed Macbeth
Now the brutal duel fighting begins between Macbeth and Macduff. The sound of swords clashing and screams started echoing Macbeth face bravely but killed by Macduff brutally. His reign of terror finally ending.
Victory of good over evil
Macduff’s victory signifies the victory of good over evil and the restoration of justice in Scotland. The witches’ prophecy, although misguided and false sense of protection, Finally leads to Macbeth’s downfall, confirming that his evil deeds could not avoid the result of luck.
