Numericals on Radii and Velocities of Orbits
Class-12 Nootan ISC Physics Solution Ch-26 Atom, Origin of Spectra : Bohr’s Theory of Hydrogen Atom.
Que-4: The radius of the first orbit of the electron of a hydrogen atom is 5.3 x 10^-11 m. What is the radius of its second orbit? (ISC 2006)
Ans- The radius of second orbit = 2² x radius of first orbit
=> 4 x 5.3 x 10^-11
=> 21.2 x 10^-11 m
Que-5: Show that the velocity of electron in the first orbit of hydrogen atom is (1/137) time the velocity of light.
Ans- Velocity of electron in first orbit

∴ v1/c = 2.19 x 10^6 / 3 x 10^8 = 1/137
Que-6: A negatively-charged pion (π¯), whose mass is 273 times the mass of electron moves in a circular orbit around a proton. It is a pi-mesic hydrogen atom. How many revolutions will the pion make during its lifetime of 10^-8 s in the ground state of the atom?
Ans- Radius of the (n=1) orbit of the π¯ mesic atom (Ground state)

The orbital speed
