                                   Think and Answer on Force

Que-1: For successful launch of a rocket such as Chandrayaan from earth’s surface to space, it has to overcome :
(i) electrostatic force of earth.
(ii)gravitational force of earth.
(iii)frictional force of earth’s atmosphere
(iv)both (2) and (3)

Ans- (iv) both (2) and (3)
Explanation : For a rocket like Chandrayaan to successfully launch from Earth into space, it must overcome:
(ii) Gravitational force of Earth : Earth pulls every object towards its center due to gravity. To lift off and go into space, the rocket must generate thrust greater than Earth’s gravitational pull.
So, overcoming gravity is essential.
(iii) Frictional force of Earth’s atmosphere : As the rocket moves upward through the atmosphere, it experiences air resistance (drag) which opposes its motion.
So, The rocket must overcome this frictional force to move smoothly upward.

Que-2: The correct arrangement of forces due to rolling, static and sliding friction in decreasing order is :(i) Rolling, static, sliding
(ii)Rolling, sliding, static
(iii) Static, sliding, Rolling
(iv) Sliding, static, Rolling

Ans- (iii) Static, sliding, Rolling
Explanation: Friction depends on the type of motion between surfaces.
(a) Static friction : Acts when the body is just about to move.
It has the maximum value because it prevents motion from starting.
Highest friction
(b) Sliding (kinetic) friction : Acts when the body is already moving (sliding).
It is less than static friction.
Medium friction
(c) Rolling friction : Acts when the body rolls.
It is the least among all.
Lowest friction
Therefore, decreasing order:
Static > Sliding > Rolling

Que-3: When you apply mustard oil to your hands, out of the following objects, which object will be difficult for you to hold :
(i) Earthen cup
(ii) Thermocol tumbler
(iii) Wooden cup
(iv) Glass tumbler

Ans- (iv) Glass tumbler
Explanation: When you apply mustard oil, your hands become slippery, which means friction between your hand and the object decreases.
